Japanese Language School (Refer to the "Programs" tab above) After-School Plus (A+) Program Refer to the "Forms" tab above for related documents The After-School Plus Program, better known as "A+", was created to reduce the high incidence of latchkey children and to provide affordable after-school care for elementary school children whose parents are working, attending school or in a job training program during the hours of the A+ program. Today, Moiliili Community Center's Children & Families Program proudly serves two A+ programs in the Honolulu area...
Children enrolled in A+ must report immediately to their leaders after the school day ends. Attendance will be taken and children will have time for a snack before starting their homework. Once homework is completed, children will have an opportunity to participate in structured activities including indoor/outdoor games, arts & crafts and much more. If your child attends any of these schools and you're interested in registering for the A+ program, please refer to the "Forms" tab above or contact the MCC office for more information. Incomplete registration packets will delay your child's start date in the program. (Restrictions may apply.) Please allow 3-5 days for processing. For families not qualified for A+ service, take a look at our After-School Program at MCC. After-School Program at MCC Refer to the "Forms" tab above or call MCC at 955-1555 for more information The After-School program was instituted in September 1982 in an attempt to keep the noise level down while Japanese Language School instructors taught their classes in an environment conducive to learning. As of today, our after-school program remains strong and continues to service children from all areas of Honolulu. Unlike A+, parents don't need to be working, attending school or in a job training program during after-school hours to qualify. Parents interested in attending MCC's After-School program may register at any time during the course of the school year. (Restrictions may apply.) Transportation services may be available from select area schools. However, space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Hokulani Early Morning Care MCC proudly offers an early morning care program at Hokulani Elementary School every morning from 6:30-8:00 a.m. on regular school days. Early morning care offers parents a safe, supervised environment for their children before the start of the school day. The children will have time to study, participate in various games and/or activities and socialize with their peers. Breakfast is optional and at the parent's expense. Hokulani School asks parents not to have their children on campus prior to 7:30 a.m. However, if you have no other options, MCC may be the answer to your early morning needs. For more information, stop by the school cafeteria between 6:30-8:00 a.m. or call the MCC office. Call MCC at 955-1555 for space availability. Fall Intersession Refer to the "Forms" tab above for our posted registration forms The fall intersession program usually takes place during the first week of October following the DOE school calendar. Normally one week long, our program runs from 7:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Deadlines & restrictions may apply. Children will have an opportunity to participate in various structured activities such as arts & crafts, indoor/outdoor games, mini-excursions, etc. Holiday Programs (Spring Adventure Program registration deadline is Thursday, February 25 or until space is full, whichever comes first) Refer to the "Forms" tab above for our posted registration forms MCC offers two holiday programs each school year based on the DOE school schedule. Both of these all-day programs run from 7:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m. at MCC, Monday through Friday except on Federal & State holidays. Making plans for your child during school breaks can be a stressful time. Whether it's taking vacation from your job, finding family or friends to watch your child or even deciding on child care services...it all takes time and planning. Whatever your situation may be, you can count on MCC to have programs available to you during these times of the year. Deadlines & restrictions will apply.
Children will have an opportunity to participate in structured, themed activities based on the holiday. In addition to arts & crafts and indoor/outdoor games, children will take part in simple cooking activities, excursions and much more. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Late registrations will be accepted provided space is still available in your child's appropriate age group. Fees will apply. Summer Smiles Program School's out and summer is in! Our summer program begins after the DOE school year ends. Although the children are excited that summer is here, it can be an additional strain for any parent. Who will watch my child? Do I have enough vacation leave? When do I get a break? MCC may be the answer to your summertime blues. We have all-day programs from 7:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday except on Federal & State holidays. Half-day programs MAY be offered depending on summer school programs in our area. In addition to arts & crafts activities, indoor/outdoor games, nature/science, etc. your child will enjoy weeks of planned activities such as excursions to beaches, parks and various local & tourist attractions around our island home. The highlight of summer is our Family Fun Night. It's a night of entertainment, games and refreshments for the entire family. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration usually begins in mid-April. So whether or not you decide on MCC, start planning early so you have one less item "on your plate". Please note: MCC does not offer child care services during the last week of summer before the new school year begins. Teens In Action Program The focus of this volunteer program is to provide enthusiastic, caring teens with a heart for working with children a place to obtain credit for school, learn valuable work skills and/or gain experience. Teen volunteers are a vital part of our program. In addition to assisting our staff personnel in supervising and implementing activities, they become role models to our children. Therefore, teen volunteers are required to follow the same procedures & guidelines as our staff personnel. If your teen has completed the seventh (7th) grade or higher, has a current TB clearance & physical...they are welcome to volunteer in our after-school program at MCC or during any of our all-day programs such as Fall Intersession, Winter Adventure, Spring Adventure or our Summer Smiles programs. Fees will apply. For more information, call our main office. The Children & Families Program welcome you and your child to try out any of our various programs held throughout the year.
